The Practical Behavior Approach is an online course designed to help you successfully reduce problem behaviors and improve cooperation, independence, and engagement of children of all ages.

This course was created to consider the needs of both special education and general education teachers, parents, or clinicians working with children struggling with challenging behaviors and meeting expectations at home or school. Learn how to prevent problem behaviors and respond effectively when negative behaviors occur while building essential positive skills. Discover how a child’s diagnosis, history of trauma, and sensory needs impact behavior and the strategies we use.

There are 6 modules with 40 video lessons -  each topic is broken into short, actionable videos, and concepts are explained in a user-friendly way. Content is available in video format, closed-captioned video, audio only, and written transcripts.
• Resources: There are over 90 pages of tools and templates included in this course. Downloads include student visuals and tools, handouts and training guides, as well as informal assessment tools, data sheets, and more.

Course Outline for The Data Driven Classroom:

• Module 1: Foundations of Behavior - Module 1 sets the stage for the rest of the course by exploring the foundations of behavior. Review why behaviors happen, the significance of our role and mindset when it comes to behavior, as well as the importance of building skills for our learners in the most effective manner.
• Module 2: Contributing Factors to Behavior - Discover how factors such as diagnosis, trauma, anxiety, and sensory needs play a major role in why behaviors happen and which strategies we will use. Module 2, reviews each of these factors, as well as how to consider them when developing individualized behavior strategies and supports for learners.
• Module 3: Prevent - Lean into the first portion of the 3-Tiered Practical Behavior Approach: Prevent. Learn how arranging the environment and adult support can be proactive and prevent negative behaviors before they start. Add a plethora of antecedent-based strategies to your toolbox that will increase positive behaviors and remove triggers for negative behaviors.
• Module 4: Respond - Explore the second tier of the Practical Behavior Approach: Respond. It isn't possible to prevent negative behaviors from occurring 100% of the time. Having a plan for how to respond appropriately and effectively when these negative behaviors happen that doesn't escalate behavior or damage rapport while keeping everyone safe is key. Continue to add strategies to your toolbox to help you respond when negative behaviors occur.
• Module 5: Build - Wrap up the third tier of the Practical Behavior Approach: Build. We will discuss the key missing skills your learners may need to strengthen in order to become more successful in their settings. Find out what each skill set is, why it's important, and actionable strategies to help you build these skills with your learners.
• Module 6: Establishing and Running Your Plan - Put all of our strategies together into a quick and easy-to-use plan, explore how data collection can decipher if the strategies are working, how to take simple data, and how to train your team so everyone is on the same page!
